As of today, July 25th 2022, Mellifex Loft is taking a brief hiatus. We will be less active on social media, slower to reply to messages, and our waitlist will be closed. We will be keeping our waitlist applications closed until we get through some of the backlog. Thank you for your understanding!

Interested in a pet pigeon?

We raise a small number of tame babies every year, mainly during the spring and fall breeding season. We have shipped pet pigeons all over the continental United States!Babies are handled daily and socialized for the first two months of their lives, and only leave to go to their new homes when they are fully weaned, vaccinated, and flight-capable (around 9 weeks old) They can also be harness, clicker, and/or diaper trained at their future owners request.We always value quality over quantity and thus only have a handful of available birds every year. Because current demand is high, we have a waitlist.Those interested in adopting a pet pigeon from us should first read the Adoption FAQ and the pigeon care guide linked below. After reading, you may take the Pre-Application Test. Once both of these tasks are completed you may apply for our waitlist.The waitlist is nonbinding, we will get in touch with you if and when we have a baby that fits your needs.
Demand is very high, but we are a very small operation with only 5 breeding pairs at the moment. Please be patient after you apply. We value matching to a perfect home rather than just to whoever has been on the waitlist longest.Please take the Pre-Application Test first, and then fill out the Waitlist Application or your application cannot be processed.(Note: We do not notify if an application has passed screening. This is to prevent the likelihood of denied applicants submitting a new application under a false name. If you would like to know if your application has passed screening please message me instead!)

Shipping

We can ship our pigeons anywhere in the United States except Alaska and Hawaii. We cannot ship out of the USA at this time unless you make prior arrangements with a reputable transporter or import/export service.We do this using specialized ventilated FeatherEx or Horizon Micro Environments shipping containers and USPS Priority Mail Express service which is the only legal mail service to ship live birds. Shipping costs usually range from 40$ to 60$ depending on distance.
They leave hydrated and full and typically reach their destination in 24 to 48 hours.If you are interested in a pet pigeon from us, and would need them shipped, feel free to ask us for a shipping quote by messaging us you zip code.We no longer ship any pigeons during the holiday season, from October 25th to January 15th for their safety and out of an abundance of caution. Local adoptees will be prioritized during this time.

About the Loft

Mellifex Loft was founded in June 2018 primarily because I wanted to promote how great pet pigeons are! Pigeons are so incredibly under-appreciated, which is a shame considering I firmly believe they are one of the best choices for a pet bird. They’ve been domesticated human companions for 7,000+ years after all. They are intelligent, easily trainable, have easily met dietary and social needs, and come in thousands of unique and beautiful breeds.The Lucerne pigeon breed is our main focus. Lucernes have a reputation for having a calm temperament and a natural aptitude for companionship. They are a medium-sized, well-muscled breed that does well when kept indoors provided they have ample out of cage time with plenty of room to fly.
